Religious Education for Children
(Sunday School)

Our multi-age Religious Education (RE) meets each week concurrently with the Sunday service. The children begin in the Gathering Room to participate in the first part of the service, adjourning to their classroom for activities and discussion. Periodically, an intergenerational service is planned where school age children are encouraged to participate for the full hour. Child care is always available.

Our school-age children explore a multitude of topics which are often coordinated with the weekly sermons, presentations, and discussions of our lay-led congregation. Mirroring topics disscussed in the sanctuary allows families to then “take it home,” and further explore them together.

UU Unitarian Universalist Identity and Heritage

Our Religious Education fosters the development of UU religious identity by encouraging our long tradition of reason, questioning, good works, acceptance, and tolerance. Children learn about and discuss events, people, and symbols significant in UU history with a focus on MY UU Principles:

  1. We believe that each and every person is important.
  2. We believe that all people should be treated fairly and kindly.
  3. We believe that we should accept one another and keep on learning together.
  4. We believe that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
  5. We believe that all persons should have a vote about the things that concern them.
  6. We believe in working for a peaceful, fair, and free world.
  7. We believe in caring for our planet Earth, the home we share with all living things.
Peace

Social Justice

Our program nurtures responsibility; respect for diversity; compassion; and justice and peace within ourselves, our family, our church, our community, our nation, and our world.

Earth

The Earth

Children spend time together planting, pruning, weeding, and sprucing up our “Garden of Hopes and Dreams.” Part of our Green Sanctuary Program, our RE vegetable garden helps them learn the importance of caring for our environment and our earth.

Peace

World Religions

Children learn about religions of the world: Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, and more.

"Our goal is for our Religious Education to provide a safe and nurturing environment, build
community, nurture friendships, learn and grow together, all while having FUN! We hope
to see you and your family soon," Jessica Blasingame-Acox, Director of Religious Education
